The People’s Assembly will bring together the Occupy movement with the South Bronx Community Congress, the Bail Out the People Movement and the Bronx Freedom Party. The People’s Assembly is scheduled from noon to 5pm. Participants include members of Teamsters Local 808 at Woodlawn Cemetery, SEIU Local 32BJ/Schools Division, Transport Workers Union Local 100, Picture the Homeless, Occupy the Bronx, District 12 Parents Association Presidents’ Council, the CASA tenants organizations, La Peña del Bronx, Labor-Community Forum, the May 1 Coalition for Workers’ and Immigrants’ Rights, Bail Out the People Movement, and others. A video from People’s Video Network (online now) conveys some of the message of the People’s Assembly: http://www.youtube.com/peoplesvideo#p/a/u/0/jk_aQ_zOz9s The People’s Assembly will focus on action plans, including: A Nov. 12 march & rally at Woodlawn Cemetery against racist anti-union abuse on the job   Actions on Nov. 17 both in the Bronx and Manhattan to demand jobs A March Against Poverty & Violence in the South Bronx on Nov. 19 Hearings, marches and picketlines to save the U.S. Postal Service, and occupy post offices Support for efforts to defend the right to education and community control of the schools Immigrants' rights actions to be announced Co-Chair Ramon Jimenez, a founder of the South Bronx Community Congress and Freedom Party candidate for New York State Attorney General in 2010, emphasized the “people power” message of the event. “Just like the Occupy movement as a whole, this Bronx People’s Assembly offers a way for ordinary people to make their voices heard,” he said. “We also want to find a way for ordinary working families to be part of this growing movement,” he added.   Key demands expected to be part of the People’s Assembly include:   1.       An end to racist and anti-union violence and abuse on the job, like Woodlawn Cemetery.   2.       A campaign to end the Taylor law and other restrictions on union rights, and support for upcoming contract battles in the public sector, eg PEF and TWU, + fights to restore cuts in the schools.   3.       Cancellation of the student debt.   4.       A large-scale public works program, and an end to efforts to wipe out the postal service   5.       Reversal of the attacks on Medicare, SNAP and Social Security
